- Walk after dinner: You not only burn calories, but you also skip watching TV and saving electricity
- A stronger cardiovascular system uses oxygen efficiently and reduces your release of carbondioxide into the atmosphere.
- At a reduced weight, you will possibly need fewer calories to maintain yourself and thus more food for other people

Brown Fat- makes you burn more fat!
Ever heard of ‘brown fat’. Latest research says that brown fat is the money fat!
The fat that’s not good for you is the white fat. But the good news is that this brown fat keeps bodies warm as a built in heater, burning fuel and raising body temperature. Basically, its metabolically active and it burns calories for you- which is how anyone can lose weight! We know it sounds too good to be true, but it is.

Are you wondering, how do you get this brown fat? Well, right now you can’t just ‘get’ this fat. There is some bad news on that front. It is primarily found in rodents.
Don’t worry all is not lost. Three studies in the New Engaland Journal of Medicine show that in humans, its found in minute quantities around the upper back and neck area. Its found in higher quantities in human babies, who use this as a natural mechanism to keep themselves warm, and metabolically active.
Preliminary research also shows that Green tea extract, EGCG might stimulate brown fat. We’ve already told you how green tea burns more calories- read it here. It also helps with healthy hair. And now, it might also stimulate brown fat! That’s enough reason to start drinking the green stuff!
Drug companies are working on figuring out how to stimulate this brown fat & make it active, but a solution to that is still a long time away. So, for now, if you want to burn the fat, start getting some exercise and watch your diet to get your metabolism kicking.
As difficult as it sounds, exercising is very easy, and so is dieting. Also, dieting does not mean eating steamed, bland food. Its about managing the quantity and quality of calories. The best muscle building food- Egg nutrition
Eggs truly are perfect muscle building material!
They contain the highest quality protein. Let me explain that- Protein helps our body make muscle and burn fat. Now, protein quality is measured by the amount of protein that is used to make muscle, for every gram of protein that you consume. So, if you consume 40 grams of protein, and only 20 grams can be used for your muscles, then the quality is 0.50. Egg has a protein quality of over 0.95. Depending on the source of protein, the quality varies. And there are plenty of protein sources- dairy, meat, eggs, soy, vegetables, etc.

Among all the sources, the protein from eggs has the highest rating. Both the yolk and the albumen (the egg white) contain protein. Besides protein, the yolk also contain vitamin b12, which is necessary for fat breakdown and muscle development. Other minerals include Riboflavin, Folate, vitamins B6, D, and E, and Iron, Phosphorus, and zinc. The egg white by itself is only protein. It does not contain any vitamins. All the vitamins and minerals are in the egg yolk, along with high quality protein!
You could probably take a multi-vitamin to get these nutrients, but at Fitho we believe in getting maximum nutrition from natural and unprocessed sources, and eggs are high up on our list.
Egg calories: A medium egg contains about 90 calories, 6 gm protein, 7 gm fat (2 gm saturated, 5 gm unsaturated fat), 210 mg cholesterol (70% of your daily requirement) and almost no carbohydrates. The egg white contain about 3-4 gms of protein and no fat, and thus about 12-16 calories. The egg yolk contains over 70 calories along with all the vitamins and minerals. So, eating 1 egg yolk is good for you, multiple egg yolks a day is bad for you!
For those with an active lifestyle, recipe for a high protein snack, cook eggs with 1-2 egg yolks and 7-8 egg whites- they could be scrambled, poached, boiled, omlette, any way possible! That should provide about 25-30 gms of protein!

Pizza makes you fat and sick
Pizza can completely sabotage for weight loss plans? Its actually double trouble with pizza- the ingredients and the portions.
Pizza Ingredients: Most pizzas are made from a base of refined flour (maida), which has a high Glycemic Index, so it spikes your blood sugar and promotes fat storage. Further its topped with plenty of cheese and oil, loaded with saturated fat. Many use high fat meats like pepperoni and sausage also, again loaded with artery clogging saturated fat and lots of sodium preservatives (increases blood pressure). To make it worse, now pizza bases come stuffed with cheese!

Pizza Calories: Pizza varies in size, toppings .. so one slice of restaurant pizza can vary from 200 calories to 400 calories, loaded with upto 20-25 gm of fat, and plenty of carbohydrates. To burn off a 300 calorie slice of pizza, you need to run almost 3 miles (4.8 km)! Want to know the exercise to burn off one slice of cake.
Portions: Pizza is delicious, so we get greedy and eat more than our healthy portion sizes. Also, pizzas are getting larger. Each slice can itself be a meal. But most of us don’t stop at one slice!
So, to make pizza healthy, here are some healthy pizza recipe tips- use a whole wheat base, for the topping use a home made tomato sauce (not ketchup), add lots of veggies like sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, olives, baby spinach .. even pineapple is good (let your imagination run wild), use lean meats like chicken, low fat sausage, and top it off with some low fat cheese! With these changes, you could make a healthy low fat pizza. Using a whole wheat base, increases vitamin B and fiber content in your pizza.
To control calories and portions, use small thin crust pizza bases, so each pizza is a serving for one or two people.
If you make pizza the healthy way, you could turn pizza into a healthy muscle meal also!

Eat Vegetables for Muscle
Did you know that veggies can help build muscle too? Here’s a list of vegetables that can help you build muscle:
Beans/Legumes- All beans and legumes have protein, carbohydrates and fiber. The carbohydrates are slow releasing carbohydrates that supply long lasting energy for your daily routine and workouts. The fiber helps to clean your arteries and we all know protein is used to repair muscle damage and build new muscle. Examples of these are black beans, kidney beans (rajma), chick peas (chole), all types of dals.

Nuts- Nuts like, peanuts, almonds and walnuts are loaded with protein, unsaturated fat, fiber and antioxidants and Vitamin E. Recent studies have shown that almonds can help lower bad cholesterol and reduce waist size. Nuts are also packed with protein for building muscle. Eat them raw, roasted, or chop some into your breakfast oatmeal/cereal
Potatoes- Yes, the much maligned scapegoat vegetable, blamed by many for their weight gain problems, can actually help you gain muscle. Its packed with carbohydrates, fiber, protein, minerals like Iron and Vitamins. Raw, or steamed, it has negligible fat content. Have some mashed potatoes (without the cream/butter) with your post workout meal, to add healthy carobhydrates. These will help to repair the damaged muscle and grow new muscle. In fact, potatoes help you lose weight.
